7 Travel Goals to Add to Your New Year’s Resolutions

Life is short. Travel more, explore more, and have more fun: make these goals a priority in 2024! If you love to travel but you either don’t have the time or the money to do it, it’s time to make some changes in the new year. Re-evaluate priorities and put travel front and center as you plan an exciting year.

The first step is to decide where you want to go. Then, you have to plan it out thoroughly, from parking at the airport to your flight to your hotels. We make the first part easy, so book Valet Connections DTW parking now to kick off your year of travel. To inspire you, we have come up with these seven travel goals to add to your New Year’s resolutions.

1.  Visit Two New Countries

Make it a priority in 2024 to not just visit one country, but two. It may sound difficult, but it’s actually easier than you think. Many countries in Eastern Europe are located close together so you can include a couple (or more) countries into the mix. Whether you travel via train, bus, or rental car, you can check a few off your list in no time.

We have one tip if you really want to make the two-country thing easy. When planning a trip to Rome, Italy, make a stop at The Vatican, and you can check that off as well. Bet you didn’t know Vatican City is actually a country!

Other regions containing several small countries you can hit in one stint include Southeast Asia, Central America, and Western Africa.

2.  Visit a New Continent

Add one new continent to your 2024 New Year’s resolutions. In Africa, try Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, or South Africa. In Europe, hotspots such as France or Italy are always excellent choices. And if you plan to travel in January or February, head to South America’s Brazil or Argentina. That’s because the Northern Hemisphere’s winter is their summer.

3.  Go Under-The-Radar

If you’re not too into going where the trendy locations are, head somewhere off the beaten path that doesn’t attract quite as many tourists. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Kosovo
  • Jeju Island
  • Guyana
  • Taiwan
  • Grenada
  • Svalbard
  • Trinidad & Tobago

If you absolutely have your heart set on visiting Italy or the Maldives, head to local spots rather than busy tourist ones. For instance, sun yourself at the local beach town of Tropea in Italy, or the beautiful lush island of Maafushi in the Maldives. The options for traveling off the beaten path are literally limitless, so get creative and stick to your own agenda. Who says you have to do what others are posting on social media?

4.  Go Solo

Solo travel is vastly underrated. There are so many benefits to traveling by yourself. You and you alone can pick where you want to go, what you want to do, when and where you want to eat, and what excursions you want to try. You can go at your own pace without having to stop and slow down for other fellow travelers. Wonderful for the soul, solo travel forces you to find other ways of communicating with natives who may not speak your language, getting you out of your comfort zone and making lifelong memories.

5.  Explore Your Own Backyard

The pandemic was good for one thing: it encouraged people to stay close to home and explore their own backyard. By exploring areas you can drive to, or at least hop on a quick plane ride, you can find out more about the country in which you live without having to jet set to the other side of the world.

You’ll find lots of hidden gems right in your own backyard. You can rent an Airbnb a few towns over, a glitzy hotel in your capital city, or a quaint lakeside cabin in the off season. These mini trips close to home are perfect for parents of kids and pets who want to learn more about their local community and keep things simple. This will remind you that there’s truly beauty in everywhere you choose to look.

6.  Splurge on a Luxury Hotel

If it’s in the budget, why not splurge on luxury accommodations to pamper yourself? Book the President’s Suite at a five-star hotel, and rack up the rewards points for your next stay. Order room service or head to the hotel bar for a nice dinner out. Explore the city, take in the local sights, try a Broadway show…whatever it is, go big.

7.  Prioritize and Plan Travel

Now that you have a bunch of ideas on where your travels should take you in 2024, it’s time to prioritize your trip and start planning. Proper planning will ensure success, so it’s never too early to book your airport parking, flight, lodging, excursions, and activities.

It’s easy to make excuses about why you can’t travel. But if you keep doing that, you will look back and regret not seeing more of the world in which you live. Here at Valet Connections, we want to help you take that first step in enjoying new destinations in 2024. Don’t worry, we are here to help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions with plenty of valet parking options at the DTW airport.
